Sheriff Mark Dobbs and the Butler County
Sheriff’s Department
will be participating in the Statewide Holiday DWI Enforcement
Campaign.
"Cracking
Down on Impaired Drivers"
December
5-12 and will focus
on
reducing deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers.
Consider some of the consequences if you are caught driving
while intoxicated:
* For the first conviction( or first conviction in over five
years), your license will be suspended for 30 days
followed by a 60-day suspension if a hardship license is not
obtained.
*A second conviction results in a $1,000 fine, a year long
revocation of your license and up to a year in jail.
You will also be required to install an ignition interlock
system on your vehicle, preventing your car from starting
when you have alcohol on your breath.
*Third and subsequent convictions can be penalized with up to a
$5000. fine, a 10-year license denial, and/ or up to seven years
in jail.
*If you cause a fatal crash while intoxicated, you could be
charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, a felony resulting in up
to seven years of jail time, a $5000 fine or both.
In 2010, 240 people were killed and 962 seriously injured in
crashes involving an impaired driver.

Missouri
Law Requires all children under the age of eight to be in an
appropriate child safety seat or booster seat unless they are
80lbs or 4'9" tall.
Funding for this effort was provided through a grant from the
Missouri Department of Transportation's Traffic and Highway
Safety Division in cooperation with National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration and the Missouri Safety Center.

It is illegal for someone under 21 years of age to possess or
consume alcohol in Missouri, yet youth make up a
significant proportion of drunk drivers causing traffic crashes
on Missouri roadways. Missouri has
a "ZERO" Tolerance law- if you are under 21, your license will
be suspended if you're caught driving
with even a trace of alcohol in your system.

Brake For Seat Belts
The Butler County Sheriff's Dept will be joining with
statewide law enforcement agencies for
"Click-It or Ticket" Partnership for Missouri for
Missouri Roadway Safety,
Seven out of 10 people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are
unbuckled. Even with this staggering percentage Missouri's seat
belt usage has remained relatively unchanged in the last six
years. Missouri has a 76% seat belt use, which is well below the
national average of 85% Teens and pickup truck drivers are among
the least likely to buckle up at 66 and 62 percent.
Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people
and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
